This initiative by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, will enable individuals to study in the UK, gain skills, acquire knowledge, and build networks to tackle global development challenges.
The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, has announced the latest offer from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Cameroonians can apply for UK government scholarships to study starting in 2026. The scholarships are for one-year Master’s degrees or three-year PhD programs. According to the release, these scholarships aim to help students gain skills to tackle global challenges. The six themes include science for development, strengthening health systems, and promoting global prosperity.
According to the minister, applicants must be citizens and permanent residents of Cameroon. They must be available to begin their studies in the UK by September 2026. Master’s applicants need a very good first degree, while PhD candidates must hold a second-class degree and a Master’s degree. The application process has two key steps: candidates must use the online application system on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission website, which will be open from September 2nd to October 14th, 2025.
A complete file of documents must be submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education by October 17th, 2025. To be up to date with the scholarship scheme, required documents include stamped application copies of academic certificates, and references. PhD applicants must also provide a supporting statement from a proposed UK supervisor.
The minister emphasizes that all studies are in English, so, a mastery of the language is required. Candidates’ full applications must be deposited at the Ministry of Higher Education, Room 1504, by 3:30 p.m. on October 17th, 2025.
Thank you very much honorable minister. Please I wish to find out if for reference the refrerees will write and hand it to potential applicants or is there a section on the online application portal which will be sent to them to facilitate referencing
Hello sir,
Hope this email finds you well. I’m ANGOH Bertrand, a Cameroonian and prospective applicant for the commonwealth scholarship program in pursuit of a PhD program in chemistry. Just to call on your high office that since October 10th 2025, the Commonwealth scholarship application portal began experiencing a server failure making the Commission to extend the date to the 21st of October after many of us wrote them informing them of the challenge. So we too are just pleading that our date to deposit the application at our nominating agency (MINESUP) be extended because until now after completing the online application process, we are still unable to submit it and print a hard copy due to server error/failure.
Thanks.
Best regards.
