A six month old baby is recovering after a terrifying attack by a monkey that escaped from the Mvog Betsi zoo in Yaounde.
The animal in question escaped the Mvog Betsi zoo in Yaounde invaded a family’s home, snatching an infant from her brother’s arms and leaving her with severe injuries before being rushed to the hospital. Bomnyuy is the man who’s baby was severely injured by the escaped monkey. A normal morning at his home turned into a nightmare that day for his family.
According to report, the parents were at work, and back home was their 13 year old boy watching television when the monkey burst in, the terrified teenager ran with his sister into a bedroom, but could not fully close the door because clothes were hanging on it. The aggressive monkey forced its way into the fierce which according to report was very low, no effort to get in to Bomnyuy’s home. The animal fought to seize the baby, biting her repeatedly on her head, face, back, and buttocks before the other teenage siblings could intervene.
Ivana, is the name of the six-month old baby. The three older children acted quickly, according to the father, they rushed their wounded baby sister to a nearby hospital. Their parents were urgently called and informed of the brutal attack after the baby was already receiving treatment.
She was given anti rabies treatment and underwent a full body scan to check for internal injuries. Following the incident, A statement issued by the Ministry of Wildlife and Forestry said that In order to prevent incidents of this nature, has instructed the urgent implementation of measures to reinforce the strength of animal cages in all three zoos in the country Yaoundé, Garoua, and Limbe.
While some say the baby succumbed to her injuries, a report is still needed to clarify her condition.
