Five year old boy lost his life after being struck by a collapsing electricity pole in the old road neighborhood, in Limbe on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Report say, the child was playing with friends beside the pole before the incident happened leaving the limbe community in mourning raising concerns over the safety of aging infrastructure. The energy of Cameroon (Eneo) main electricity provider, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.
In a statement, the company confirmed that technical teams were immediately dispatched to secure the area and investigate the cause of the pole’s collapse. While no details were given on potential compensation, Eneo assured collaboration with authorities and the victim’s family to determine the next steps.
The accident highlights a persistent issue across Cameroon, where many electricity poles remain in poor condition. In urban areas, residents often live near decaying wooden poles, some tilting precariously over busy streets. Despite government plans to produce 50,000 concrete poles to phase out wooden ones, progress has been slow, leaving communities exposed to similar dangers.
The death of the young boy has generated calls for faster infrastructure upgrades. Locals in Limbe expressed grief and frustration, urging authorities to prioritize public safety. Eneo Cameroon acknowledged the pain caused by the incident, stating, “This child’s death weighs heavily on every member of our organization.” As investigations continue, the tragedy is a reminder of the urgent need for infrastructure improvements to prevent further loss of life.
