Community health-driven nongovernmental organization, the Community Health Initiative for Advancing Mental Outreach and Healing, CHIAMOH, has launched a mental health program targeting vulnerable women and youth in Mmuock Leteh village in the Wabane Subdivision of the Lebialem Division of the South West Region.The aim of the movement which was flagged off in Mmuock Leteh village recently is tailored to help women and young people manage stress and improve their well-being. Per officials of the CHIAMOH Association, the program provides critical mental health support to underserved populations facing psychological distress from socioeconomic hardships.The comprehensive initiative combines awareness campaigns, therapeutic workshops, and community-based psychosocial interventions. According to officials of the association, the scheme specifically addresses trauma, stress disorders, and social isolation prevalent in rural areas impacted by prolonged crisis situations. The services, the institution details, are delivered through mobile clinics and village outreach teams trained in culturally adapted counselling techniques.
Integrated approach
The CHIAMOH Association’s approach integrates traditional healing practices with evidence-based mental health interventions. The program operates through a network of community health workers, religious leaders, and local volunteers who identify and refer cases requiring professional attention a community member say. Selected participants who benefit from the scheme receive counselling, peer support groups, and livelihood skills training to promote recovery and resilience. The selection process involves village health committees, traditional councils, and district medical officials who identify beneficiaries based on vulnerability criteria. Local healthcare centers handle initial screenings while CHIAMOH’s clinical team conducts final assessments and treatment plans. The South west Regional Delegation of Public Health oversees quality assurance throughout implementation.
Population urged to massively register
Per authorities of the structure, as registration for the 2025 program commences, community leaders are mobilized to facilitate access for potential beneficiaries in hard-to-reach areas. They say participants wishing to benefit from the program are urged to identify themselves at their various local health centers or to the traditional authorities for enrolment information. The structure has promised to elevate all health-related challenges. According to the institution, the journey to limit health challenges has just begun and is tipped to register massive positive results as the association works hand in globe with the community to strengthen health in the community.
Groundbreaking success
Since its establishment in 2022, the program has assisted over 300 beneficiaries across Wabane Subdivision with documented improvements in emotional wellbeing and community reintegration rates. A notable success case is that of a women’s farming cooperative that overcame collective trauma through the association’s group therapy sessions. The program subsequently increased the group’s agricultural productivity by 40%.
