The Cameroon General Certificate of Education (GCE) Board announced the results for the 2025 examination year with an increase rate of 14.66% in pass marks, marking an improvement compared to previous years.
August 1, 2025, marked a significant day for some Cameroonian candidates as the Minister of Secondary Education officially released the General Certificate of Education results. The announcement, broadcast first by CRTV English prime-time news, issued by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, ended weeks of anticipation for thousands of candidates across the nation who had been awaiting their results. The statistics revealed a significant improvement in overall performance compared to the previous year. The pass rate went from 60.80% in 2024 to 75.46% in 2025, marking an increase of 14.66%.
At the Ordinary Level, the success rate reached 78.56%, showing a 16.05% improvement from the 62.51% recorded in 2024. Similarly, the Advanced Level saw a pass rate of 78.56%, up from 61.26% in 2024, reflecting an 18.11% increase. For technical and vocational examinations, the TVEE Intermediate Level recorded a 52.03% pass rate, with 11,803 candidates succeeding out of 22,683 who sat for the exam. This was slightly higher than the 49.37% achieved in 2024. At the TVEE Advanced Level, 71.19% of the 10,712 candidates passed, representing an 8.79% improvement from the previous year’s 62.39%. A total of 213,360 candidates registered for all four examinations, with 200,159 actually sitting for the tests nationwide.
The release of these results allows successful candidates to progress in their academic and professional pursuits. Elad Alexander, a GCE O/L candidate, after obtaining 11 papers, expressed an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and pride « 11 papers are not given to everyone I made it with flying colors, and I am looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead ».
While those who did not meet the required standards can consider retaking the exams. The steady improvement in exam results for both regular and technical schools shows that Cameroon’s secondary education system is getting better.
