Pink October, as it is called, is rounding up with Yaounde General Hospital concluding its breast cancer awareness campaign after a month of remarkable public participation in education and free screening services.
A month-long breast cancer awareness initiative at Yaounde General Hospital has drawn an exceptional public response, with women from all walks of life participating in educational activities and free screenings throughout October. The hospital’s Pink October campaign created remarkable community engagement as women consistently filled the dedicated awareness site from October 1st.
Under the leadership of Hospital Director Professor Noël Emmanuel Essomba, medical staff remained fully dedicated to conveying one crucial message, early detection through screening saves lives. Women ranging from 20 to 65 years old participated enthusiastically, including homemakers, business owners, students, market traders, and office workers who all responded to the hospital’s call for preventive health action. The campaign featured various community-focused activities including public conferences about breast cancer management and educational discussions.
Most importantly, it provided free screenings for both breast and cervical cancer through the hospital’s laboratory and medical imaging departments. These critical examinations ensured accessible, quality preventive care for all participants. As the campaign concludes this Friday, October 31st, hospital officials hope this concentrated awareness effort will extend well beyond the special month, transforming this surge in screening participation into a lasting habit of regular preventive healthcare among women throughout the community.
