A recent initiative in Figuil has equipped young community leaders with essential conflict resolution and civic engagement skills, aiming to strengthen social harmony during the upcoming electoral period.
A three days training workshop in Figuil has successfully equipped a new generation of community leaders with the essential skills to actively promote peace and social unity. Held from September 20 to 22, 2025, at the Center for the Promotion of Women and Family, this initiative was a critical component of the national PRONEC project (National Civic Education Program for Strengthening Social Cohesion).
The program brought together young leaders from the various communities within the Commune of Figuil, aiming to transform them into ambassadors for civic responsibility and peaceful coexistence. The training sessions were designed to address pressing local and national needs. Through dynamic exchanges, practical workshops, and interactive discussions, participants delved into the core principles of active citizenship and the practical mechanisms for preventing and resolving community conflicts.
A central theme was fostering peaceful cohabitation and inters communal tolerance, emphasizing dialogue and mutual understanding as foundations for a stable society. The timing of this initiative was particularly strategic, as it directly prepares these young individuals for their role in maintaining harmony during the sensitive period leading up to Cameroon’s presidential elections.
Having completed the training, these motivated young “weavers of peace” are now formally prepared to launch extensive awareness campaigns within their own spheres of influence. They will carry messages of peace and civic responsibility back to their neighborhoods, villages, and local schools. Their direct engagement is expected to play a crucial role in preventing community tensions, strengthening inter community relationships, and encouraging responsible citizen participation in the democratic process.
As essential relays for social cohesion, their work after the training will contribute significantly to promoting a national climate of dialogue and respect.
