In a heartfelt ceremony in Douala, the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) provided essential school supplies and financial support to more than 200 students, to ensure a smooth academic year for the children.
This commitment was on full display at the Bonanjo party house as the organization hosted the 10th edition of its annual School Materials Handover Ceremony (REMASCO). For a decade, the Policemen’s Wives Association (POWA) has stood as a pillar of support for the families of deceased police officers. The event, which brought together local administrative and municipal authorities, aimed to give children from preschool to university level the tools they need for a successful and stress free school year.
Since its founding in 2015, the initiative has supported thousands of children across Cameroon. The ceremony was presided over by Aboubakary Haman Tchiouto, representing the Governor of the Littoral region, and was attended by the Regional Delegate of the National Security. In a speech, the Secretary General of the Governor’s Services expressed his conviction that the students would excel.
“I also thank all the partners who have supported these brave women in helping these young Cameroonians, who did not choose to be orphans, but who feel supported by mothers who are and will always be there for them.” Dr. Onda Ongono Diane, the Regional President of POWA in Littoral, emphasized the emotional core of their mission. “Every time we organize this ceremony, we are satisfied to see the children happy, forgetting their misfortune for a moment. That is the most important thing for us,” she said.
The impact of POWA’s work was powerfully voiced by Merveille Noumbi, who represented the orphans. She expressed profound gratitude for the sustained material and financial support offered to them and their widowed parents over the years. “We promise to make good use of this help so you can be proud of us,” she said, also appealing for future opportunities within the National Security family, calling it “the only true and beautiful memory we have kept of our parents.”
The REMASCO program is a nationwide effort, funded by a network of donors including the husbands of association members, private businesses, and friends, all contributing to ensure that the legacy of fallen officers is honored through the education and support of their children.
