The call was made on January 31, 2025, during separate audiences granted by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, to political parties after they visited his ministry, as the nation actively prepares for the upcoming presidential elections in October this year.
Four opposition political parties have officially called on incumbent President Paul Biya to stand as a candidate in the October 2025 Presidential Elections. The Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation, PCRN, the Movement for Democracy and the Defense of the Republic, MDR, the Progressive Movement for Action and Change, PRAC, and the Union of the Populations of Cameroon, UPC submitted their motions of support to the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, on January 31, 2025.
The MDR, through Its National President, Daissala Tigana Tassi, expressed unwavering support for President Paul Biya’s candidacy, highlighting his leadership and commitment to safeguarding peace, security, and national unity. They also praised his dedication to promoting economic growth, social cohesion, and coexistence. The UPC, led by its Secretary General, Hon. Robert Bapooh Lipot, acknowledged the France-Cameroon investigation into past political events and reiterated its support for Biya’s leadership.
The founder of the PCRN, Robert Kona, along with PRAC, represented by Mbogol Jean Jacques, jointly endorsed Biya, citing his role in maintaining peace, unity, and economic development. They presented a formal statement to Minister Atanga Nji, reaffirming their confidence in his leadership. Minister Atanga Nji, who received the endorsements on behalf of the President, assured the parties that their declarations would be conveyed to Biya.
This endorsement from the four political parties follows similar motions of support from traditional rulers and religious leaders across Cameroon, including Muslim leaders from the three northern regions.
